What Makes WIMOs One of a Kind

Worldwide, women make up less than 30% of the maritime workforce. WIMOs is composed of women whom are actively employed in maritime operations, which enables our members access to female peers and mentors in the maritime industry. Our organization provides access to a peer group of “like-minded women” who can relate to the day-to-day professional or personal struggles that may arise.

Our Motto is Educate. Engage. Elevate. We achieve this by providing supplemental educational opportunities on diverse topics. WIMOs also maintains female representation at industry events that women may otherwise be left out of. With more education and representation WIMOs prevents women from becoming pigeonholed in their careers.

With more knowledge and a peer support group WIMOs has created a platform to propel women in their maritime career.

Why a 501(c)(3):

WIMOs became a 501(c)(3) non-profit because the organization stands to Educate, Engage, and Elevate each woman in her maritime career. As a registered 501(c)(3), WIMOs can apply for educational grants, which provides our members more value for their membership than if WIMOs relied solely on membership dues to operate. For example, WIMOs currently spends more than $20,000 a year on educational opportunities such as: Lunch N Learns, Operational Tours, Golf Lessons, Business Etiquette, Industry focused Webinars, and more. Ultimately, our members and member companies benefit from a more educated workforce. Women in Maritime Operations (WIMOs) was founded in July 2017 in New Orleans, LA by Kasey Eckstein (founder) and Jenna Gaudet (co-founder). This social networking and education-based non-profit was created for women who actively work in maritime operations, to include women who own, operate, charter, stevedore, or otherwise work in logistics for U.S. vessels on national or international waterways.

 Member Testimonials

“I INITIALLY GOT INVOLVED IN WIMOS BECAUSE I WAS FEELING ISOLATED IN MY JOB. THE ONLY PROFESSIONAL MARITIME WOMEN IN MY SPHERE WERE WOMAN SITTING IN MY COMPANY’S FRONT OFFICE. WHEN I JOINED WIMOS I FOUND A GROUP OF WOMEN THAT I COULD RELATE TO AND LEARN FROM.”

“THIS ORGANIZATION IS UNIQUE BECAUSE IT INVOLVES WOMEN DOING THE ‘DIRTY’ WORK OR HANDS-ON AND NOT JUST EXECS WHO MIGHT KNOW WHAT HANDS-ON IN THE MARINE INDUSTRY MEANS.”

“IT PREVENTS WOMEN FROM FEELING ISOLATED IN THE MARITIME INDUSTRY.”

“LAUNCHED BY WOMEN, AND NOW HAS CHAPTER BOARD MEMBERS, THAT ARE RESPECTED AND LOOKED UP TO. THAT MAKES OTHER WOMEN IN OUR INDUSTRY FEEL COMFORTABLE TO JOIN AND GET INVOLVED.”

“SERVING ON THE BOARD REINVIGORATED MY LOVE OF THIS INDUSTRY AND ALLOW ME TO SERVE OTHER WOMEN IN THE INDUSTRY WHILE ALSO LEARNING A LOT FROM THE OTHER WOMEN IN THE ORGANIZATION.”
