What is a Barge Party?

Exactly what is sounds like. The majority of the event will take place on a barge rigged to the rest of LL&W fleet (Classroom Barge, Garbage Barge and Tow Boat). The Classroom Barge is LL&W “home away from home” with lavatories, office, a full kitchen (galley), bedrooms, Classroom and more. The Garbage Barge will have the current garbage haul, but don’t be put off by the name. Almost everything that goes on the barge is recycled.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • Hors D'oeuvres

  • BBQ

  • Bar Service with beer, wine and cocktails

  • Live Music (band)

  • Barge Tours of the living quarters, classroom, towboat, and current garbage haul.

  • Lively conversations with your maritime industry peers

  • Other highlights include live music, food, beverages, and maritime mingling!

  • We encourage all attendees to paint the city of Nashville green and rock their finest green attire to support our collective efforts in keeping our waterways clean.

LOCATION:

The fleet will be moored at East Bank Landing, next to the Ghost Ballet structure.

What is Living Lands & Waters?

Chad Pregracke started Living Lands & Waters in 1998 as a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the beautification and restoration of America’s major rivers and the education of environmental issues. From its single-boat beginning, LL&W has grown to an industrial-strength, internationally-known organization with a fleet of barges and workboats. Spending up to nine months a year living on the barge, LL&W engages thousands of volunteers each year in river cleanups, hands-on environmental education workshops, the Great Mississippi River Cleanup, Adopt-a-River-Mile, Alternative Spring Break, the I-80 Restoration Project, Invasive Species Removal, the MillionTrees Project and Recycle Like a Rockstar.

For the last 25 years, the LL&W crew has worked on 26 rivers in 21 states, hosting thousands of waterfront cleanups. With the assistance of over 130,000 volunteers, LL&W has removed over 13 million pounds of garbage from America’s rivers. In addition, the team has planted 1.9 million native hardwood trees throughout the Plains, Midwest, East, and Southeast United States.

Joint Collaboration

Both WIMOs and LL&W share a desire for sustainability and education within our industry. Since WIMOs’ conception LL&W has allowed our members to participate in river clean ups on the Ohio River. These opportunities provide greater perspective and appreciation of the challenges that face the inland waters our member work on. These opportunities provide appreciation for the challenges that face the inland waters. Our members can use this new perspective to have an edge on their careers and futures in the maritime industry.
